Geese

Postby stumpjumper1590 » Tue Dec 03, 2013 10:37 am

Me and my hunting partner just got permission to hunt some farm land that is holding lots of geese. Neither of us have ever hunted geese and I have a few questions. Should we get 2 dozen full bodies and put them out, or should we invest/make some silhouettes and put out 10 to 15 dozen. I am trying to keep it as cheap as possible since we won't be hunting geese everyday, but still want to be able to pull them in. I was reading a article that said later in the year less can be more, but wanted to get everyone's input. Thanks gents!!!

Give me a holler if you have my number still stump. I have a bunch (150ish) texas rags in snow and blue color. They work great. I would also pull a dozen full body specks or snows to put on the edge of the spread.

Yeah been skunk city or close to it for me. This whole semester has been a disaster since I smashed my hand in the concrete lab first month of class... been downhill ever since.

This isn't even fair for the geese.

Farmland destroyers need to be wiped out anyhow. Snow geese are what I am talking about.

Geese

Postby :-) » Wed Dec 04, 2013 4:40 pm

If you have less than 10 hunters I wouldn't put out more than 1,000 decoys/rags....it's more time consuming than you may think.

Also, if the geese are roosting close to where you're hunting keep the white lights to a minimum...they aren't stupid, and know what you're doing.

Specks are much much easier to call than snows. Snows don't have a 20 per day limit because they decoy easy.

Good luck, and if you need help let me know...my gear stays in the truck all winter.

If you need more help I can add about 6 doz full bodies, 7 doz shells, and 3 doz windsocks to the effort.

I've got the same problem. I've got access to wheat fields in OK, I just don't have a goose spread to work the birds with.

Need a punt gun for them. They are ugly, annoying and stink. Hate those birds almost as much as water turkeys.
