I shoot a Beretta Xtrema II - early season I stick to 3" 4 shot. This time of season with the ducks the way they are 3 1/2" 3 shot or 2 shot.

I shoot a patternmaster improved cylinder choke, and have been smackin' them pretty far out (when needs be).

Well i just bought a win. 1300 it came with a MOD choke. I want seem to hit a thing. Had 40 birds fly right at me 20to 30 yards up i shot all 3 shells and missed every bird with a 3" 1 shot. Earlier this season i was shooting 3" 4 shot with a imp MOD or a full choke and was killing birds. Should i go back to the 3" 3's. And make a different choke. Is so what should i go with. Most of my shots i take are a max of 40 yrds. I try not to sky bust.

From full to extra extra full. I have an adjustable poly choke. I don't shoot anything more open than full. Seeme to be working fine for my Mossberg 835 shooting Xperts 3's #2 shot.

I shoot a Benelli M2 with a kicks mod choke and shoot 3in #2s all season long. I'll shoot BB if we are specifically targeting Canadas.

Improved, 2 3/4" 2 shot ducks, 3" 1 or 2 shot for geese. Out stone cold to 30-40yards.
Sometimes modified for late season geese.

 Really?!?! That's some long shooting for geese and that size shot. What shells are you using?

I shoot a Patternmaster extended range out of my SBE 2 with 3 inch 3 shot at ducks and 1 shot or BB's at geese (I don't shoot passing shots on geese this leads to to many cripples and ensuring geese that are decoy shy in the area), I prefer 1 shot on geese if I can find the shells. I also shoot a Patternmaster long range out of my 20 gauge Winchester SX3 #2's at ducks and shoot BB's out of this gun at geese. Spend the time to both pattern your gun and look at after market tubes. If you purchase a gun from Max Prairie Wings the always sell the gun with an after market tube. I believe these guys are the expert and I am a firm supporter of Patternmaster they are serious about quality and waterfowl hunting.... Happy hunting

3" i go hevi metal 3's for ducks less diver hunting go 4's and 3 1/2" hevi metal BB OR BBB do well for me out of my patternmaster CODE BLACK DUCK choke love this tube has givin me more confidence in my shots and provides clean kills with fewer cripples with a fairly long range on this set up

wow should have read that first before i posted it, Should have said 30-40 yards.Rarely ever shoot at birds further than 30 though, but have dropped them no problem with those loads out to 40. Nothing special on the shells just kent or xperts. Its more about shot placement and pattern imo. My full choke with steel is horrible, the patterns aren't consistent and all over the place, my improved patterns really well out to 30 yards with those loads. the modified gets a little tighter but i notice more pellets that start to fall out of the pattern.

Here is a good thread on the topic. Follow paddler123's posts, he has it figured out i think. He has posted quite a bit on there and some other forums and he has pictures to prove his statements! Maybe do a search for some of his threads.

Tried the Remington Wingmasters HD 3" #2's for geese and didn't really notice too much a difference over steel, other than the price!

3 inch 2's out of an improved cylinder choke. can't believe all these guys with these long range chokes. open those chokes up with steel shot and let these birds get in close. heck even with an improved cylinder, 3 inch 2's still dump those ducks at long range, that steel shot stays tight.

I shoot the Patternmaster because of the shot string theory. I shoot the extended range because I bought it for Geese and just got comfortable shooting it. What I miss I miss and what I hit I kill. Far less cripples. I would rather entirely miss a bird than put one through the lung and watch it drift off into the distance to just die as a cripple.

I think your right. I shot 1 green head tonight and noticed i took my time and dropped it on the first shot. I think i spray and prey when there is a ton of birds coming in.

Have you ever had your shotgun fit to you? It is really worth it! Mcknight Gunsmithing fit my gun it was really inexpensive and has improved my shooting substantially....

I can't remember but think it was around $25.00. I had him do some trigger work and put a 'hi viz' sight on it. When I picked it up it was all on one bill. He knows his business around a shotgun. I was referred to him from a couple guys out at lee kay. I'm glad he fit me I have been primarily shooting my 20 gauge all year and have killed more than my fair share of birds w/ it.

This is step one ^^^^^
Step 2 pattern.
Step three hit the clay's range.
Step 4 go kill birds once you have step 3 down solid.

Why you worried about money????? You own a Benelli so you must have money to throw away.

I'd agree with a sight. I stuck the biggest fiber optic sight I could find on the end of my gun. My aim improved significantly. When I look down the sights at a duck, there's a big red dot outlined in bright yellow leading it. I think it has helped me make quicker shots and had made it easier to line up the shot. A sight accompanied with my full choke at 25 yards tops, I'm a happy hunter.
