Local Goose season opener

Postby yellodog1 » Mon Jul 17, 2006 5:39 pm

Last year the opening day of local season was the day after Labor day weekend. Doews anyone know if it usually opens the same time every year?

Vermont Goose Dates early season

Postby yellodog1 » Wed Aug 09, 2006 8:26 pm

September 5th to the 25th for local goose season.
5 is the daily limit for most of the State. With 2 being the limit near Addison county areas.

Try jump shooting locals. Unless you have patterned them, or know where they are, that seems to work. Early in the season, they dont move a whole lot, and will usually stay put.
Once they get shot at a few times, they will be on the move.

Keep an eye out while you are driving around. There are Geese in a lot of fields and lakes right now. Sneak up on them, scare them up, let them fly and try to get a shot.
If you are just starting out, ask a few friends that hunt as well. Once you get in to it, you will be hooked.

Get stamps at the post office (federal stamp) and your state stamp at your town office. Federal is $15. and the state is $5.00.

Next week is the opener, but so far I haven't seen too many geese. With the weather the way it was this year, the farmers will be cutting the corn late I would imagine. Hopefully I do as well as last year on the opener.

Seems like opening day last year, I got more than you did.

I also remember not that long ago Dukklr, that I had to tell you to shoot.

The only thing that I can say is that when we are close enough for "chubby" our shot string is so close we may as well be shooting slugs. Next year if he doesn't get a new gun I'm going to write Jerry Lewis and see if he will sponsor him. :toofunny:

Opening day was a bust for us. We put on a lot of miles, and checked every field, pond and river between the Canadian border and St. Johnsbury, with no geese to report. We did try toi sneak a couple of small flocks, one we got beaten to it by some other hunters and the others were gone by the time we got to where they were on the river.

Not to many geese around right now. Oh well, its a long season.

Good Job Duckklr on your successful hunt on Friday. I wish I could have gone. Sounded like fun.

Not to mention a banded bird.

My buddy and I ended up with ten together, 4 bands. He went out on his own and shot 4. So, 14 total. We only got skunked once. That was a water hunt. We set up early in champlain and saw a couple hundred flying but could not get them to turn. We set a time for 11:00a.m. At 10:45 we decided to pick up. At 10:50 they came back and wanted to land and we were too visible so they left. If we had stuck to our plan we might have got them to land. All the hunts were in clover fields with layout blinds.
