Snow Goose Hunt?

Postby brokermike » Mon Jan 07, 2013 8:55 am

Just wondering if any VT members would have any interest in doing a snow goose hunt in Maryland? Was thinking of booking with DOA Outfitters down there and obviously it can't be just me itching to pound some birds.

I was thinking Mid-February.

Thoughts-Midweek or weekend?

I think if we can get 4 guys, plus I've got a few that want to go, we could do it for $200-300 each plus the cost of driving and snacks and such.

I'll see what I can pull off and get back to you

Snow Goose Hunt?

Postby brokermike » Tue Jan 08, 2013 7:35 pm

Looks like we can do it for 300 including food and lodging. I'd be inclined to try and hunt Friday and Saturday.

It seems kind of speedy but food is probably 40-50 and lodging is about equal so the hunting is actually pretty cheap.

Looks like about 4 already from locals

What if I phrased it as $225 per gun per day and everyone was in charge of their own food and lodging?

I am open to other options and other outfitters if anyone has a hookup. I'd even be willing to try and do it without a guide if people we inclined.

I would consider that if you still have room. I am orignally from the eastern shore of Maryland. My family once farmed the area adjacent to the Blackwater Wildlife refuge.

As far as doing it without a guide, I am game and have about 100 Texas rags. However, success is dependant on knowing where the birds are going to be and in that area, permission can be really tough to get. It is not like Vermont. Many areas are leased.

Would you guys consider upper state New York? It is only a couple hours away. I have hunted with Frontier Outfitters four times and each time we got between 40 and 80 birds. Cost is $250/day. Motel in Plattsburg, NY license and food extra. Season starts March 11 and runs to mid April.

I think it is a mandatory 2 day minimum. $500 for 2 days just for the hunt is pricey.

killed the hell out of them. Got back yesterday and noticed the birds were already seeming to be piling up to migrate north
