Any body duck hunting still

Postby chambo32 » Mon Nov 19, 2007 5:03 pm

Any body still duck hunting and or seeing any birds? Sounds like deer season has distracted people. Been seeing some whistlers and Buffies out on the lake in near shelburne.

Yes. Went out today and saw lots of ducks. Even managed to kill two scaup (?) and one big mallard drake.
If I was a better shot I could have limited out.
My problem may have been the #4 shot I was using. I'll bring the #2 tomorrow.
Lots of birds up and many decoying before they 'shut-off' around 9:30 am.
Hope to have more to report tomorrow night.

Hey Guys,
I was out Sunday morning on Dead Creek and saw lots of ducks. Like the man said, if I was a better shot I would have had more then the 1 mallard I got!!!

Do you guys know where to hunt on the lake down near the Champlain bridge or Otter creek. I would like to hunt some divers but don't have a clue where to go.

I have a 14 footer and 15 horse motor and an Otter 1200.
so I can get out in most places.

Thanks

seeing ducks

Postby HotDog » Tue Nov 20, 2007 3:42 pm

Went back out today.
WOW it was windy, snowy, and cold.
first flock of teal landed before we even loaded up.
lots of high fliers.
many large flocks of greenwing teal.
4 teal and 1 black duck harvested.
I don't think I'll enjoy deer hunting as much after these last two days.

Good news is you got your limit...of scaup. Good work on the mallard.
I've been out a few times this week and seen alot of birds (no shots). There are more ducks around than most people think. The only trouble is finding a good spot with open water that's not being hunted. Lots of ice around here, so we are kinda limited on places to go..

Having good luck on the lake. Lots of birds mostly Goldeneye's but I love hunting them. Some mergs (didn't shoot) some big ducks never came close enough but they were sitting in the middle of the bay. Thats about it Have a Happy Thanksgiving!!! "OH and the past couple of hunts got 4 whistlers and 1 goose."
Theres nothing like frostbite and gunpowder in the air!!!!

Monday 26th and Tuesday 27th moderate temps in the 30's...Two hunters around 2.5 hours each morning, six birds Monday and four Tuesday, all blacks and mallards (should have been twice that or close to it on both days)... 1.5 inches of ice each day from launch for about 100yds to open water...birds very accomodating early then wary, lots of blacks still around...it ain't over till you gotta wear skates...XAWC
