First VT Pintail

Postby mailyard » Tue Nov 04, 2008 2:10 pm

I shot a hen pintail on the vt side of champlain, this is the first pintail I have seen taken in vt. Has anyone else taken one in, and are they more common than I think?

Sprig are pretty common mixed in with the mallards and blacks. I usually get a couple a year. A great eating duck. I think you're more apt to get them hunting marshes and fields, they like the wide open shallow areas more than ponds, streams, or big lake areas
What? There's open water? Its not cold enough.

I have been harvesting 3-4 a year. I think they are more common than people think, but i can't imagine they are more than 5% of our birds. They usually don't develope the sprig until after they migrate, so they can be difficult to pick out when flying.
