A penny for your thoughts????

Postby cut_un » Sat Oct 29, 2005 7:15 am

Reading in another site noticed a group of guys gearing up for a group hunt. Just wondering if anyone knew of a spot (freelance) that we could get together and plan a hunt. I guess it could be set up like a fishing tourn. Two to a boat. Some firnish the boats and some become "the first mate"..... Don't know how many would be involved but I'd think we would have at least 4-5 boats????

Also, we could plan a "snow goose hunt" after the duck season goes out. Maybe Maryland or the Eastern Shore, (north or south), (east or west)....... again, just an opportinity to get together and hang out

I have a 17" boat with a mud motor and a pop up blind that can carry 3 hunters. I have a couple of good spots over here on the eastern shore and could talk to some farmers about the snow goose hunt!

Well, one thing I notice .... we all have boats!!!!! So that's not a problem. I guess finding the ones that do not want to take their boat will be the issue. Who will be will to be 'first mates"????? Just kidding :salude:
We can set a weekend during duck season and head to "de shore".....(We will just need a head count and find a place to stay if you guys want to spend 'de night") I'm up for that ....as always  or we can let muddycreek talk to the farmers about the snow goose hunt

OR do both I guess we should plan one "get together at a time" But lets get -er-done

Well, one thing I notice .... we all have boats
To tell the truth that's a good thing . Hunting a spot where none of us have been scouting we would be better off with boats all over the area , it'ill keep the birds moving .
Let me ask a question , are we talking a Saturday hunt only or can it be a 2 or 3 day hunt doing the week ?
If we did a week day hunt it would be a fair bet that it would be just us out there .
Let me ask another question , do we all have to hunt next to each other or can we pick a county and plan to stay at the same place , plan to eat lunch at the same place , plan to eat dinner at the same place and hunt all over the one county ?
The talk has been to hunt Eastern Shore , well just south of t's corner (where you turn off of Rt.13 to go to chincoteague) there is a new motel that I would bet would give us a deal with a group rate . This location is in the center of some good hunting spots , to name a few Saxis WMA -Mockhorn WMA - Assawoman & Metompkin Islands - Parkers Marsh NAP . We could plan a two day hunt (say friday and saturday) where we eack pick one of the spots and hunt it the first day . then that night we pick the one spot that had the most birds and all go there for the last days hunt .

Just to put it on the table , all of you can come to Mathews for a hunt and everyone can stay at my farm  .

I agree Ld, the more boats the better. Just thinking about getting as many folks in to the hunt as possible, figure 2 per boat. If we can lock down a Friday Saturday group hunt, I can see if I can take a vac. day so I can hunt on Friday too. Maybe someone is dialed in to the shore and help with floater spots????
Also, Ld, you and I have talked on and off about hunting down at the farm, that would not be a bad idea either! may be a great spot for a 'get together/hunt

well, depending on how jittery you guys are about nov. 19th gettin here, we could always go out diver huntin out at my place once the scoter get here (should be about a week). if anyone wanted to do that, we could get however many boats, and hook up like 3 together and have a big like chain boat gang....when the birds come in, they will be just droppin left and right. its all up to you guys, just kinda throwin somethin else out there.

I don't have a floating bling so I could go as first mate. Just let me know when.

Would not mind trying the sea ducks if someone has a open spot.

Been planning on wackin a few seaducks this season. I for one would not mind hookin up for a seaduck hunt..... That's something we could do in the next few weeks and have a warm up for the puddle ducks!!!! I have a floater ready to roll but do not mind being 1st mate either, whatever is called for. Lets try to lock down a date as soon as possible as we can start making plans. I'm wide open ...but and subject to "HAVE " to work any given weekend, all I can do is make plans.... most of the time it works out.......... except certain "duck" camping trips, right LD???

Cut_un I know of something you may have that would help this hunt out , I need anchors for the longlines . I have window weights that I used last time but they tell me that I need more weight . I had one on each end and I was told that I need 3 of them (at a lb each 3 lbs is needed on each end) . I would like lead but that is hard to come by these days , do you have any ideas ?

 LD

It will take some time to get you exactly what you want /need as I have solid lead bars but they are 28 lbs. apiece. We will need to make(I can make it)/ get a mold so I can pour them into 3 lb weights. That will take a bit of time  but I can make you some mushroom anchors out of steel for now...if that would work. How many?????? I think I can have the ones made of steel by next weekend

As few as two and no more then eighteen is my answer back to you , I have enough to do my 6 longlines so if you can make 6 to do both ends of the three longlines I have for you that would be cool .

Now about that lead , I would like to buy some bars from you , name you price ?
