I like the sitting pose! Almost looks like he's scatching his junk.

I think you are on to something, he picked that pose for a reason. Only thing missing is one of his sister's socks. :lol3:

The boy watched him sitting on a log right before he made the mistake of coming in range of the boy so when he seen the pose he had to have it.

One buff has a blue bill and one has a black bill. Queston of the day = Which is right??

Not sure, although I would say mine is like a very dark blue. With better lighting in the picture and dusting it off some more, mine looks very similar to this male Bufflehead from Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Bucephala-albeola-007.jpg):

Oh, I actually think now that they are the same... it looks like to me that actually the flash of his camera made the bill shine and appear blue.

Yeppers;) I took the pick down stairs and tried to get all the colors to come through on the head, brightened up the bill too much :fingerhead:

Luckily I have a buddy that does my deer, so I get them at a discount. But the ducks I pay full price for and he does a great job and is a lot cheaper than anyone else I've found.

 How did you shoot one of those in NC? Only recorded large numbers of free-flying mandarins recorded is out in California...everything else is Asia.

There is a feral population in Black Mountain, NC - about 40 miles from me (closer, by the way the duck flies).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mandarin_Duck

Distribution and habitat
Isolated populations exist in the United States. The town of Black Mountain, North Carolina has a limited population, and there is a free-flying feral population of several hundred mandarins in Sonoma County, California. This population is the result of several mandarin ducks escaping from captivity, then going on to reproduce in the wild.

I know of 5, that's been killed local over the past several years.

Actually, I shot him for a wood duck. When my lab brought him back, I was like "what the crap?!?".
