First Goose Hunt tomorrow, What do I do?

Postby Donnyt » Fri Sep 22, 2006 11:10 am

Just figured I'd ask a dumb nuuby question.

I'm planning to head out to the Princesse Anne WMA first thing in the AM with my dad. I bought a doz shell decoys from ODW and 2 boxes of steel shot. I've hunted Ducks a few times but this is my first September goose hunt.

Any suggestions.

Thanks,
Donny

The art of goose hunting is a learning experience, one inwhich will be "in it's own time". Like duck hunting, check the wind, leave a pocket, stay low and shoot where the are going, not where they have been. Good Luck and enjoy your morning

Well, I don't know if its an indication of the area or just a bad day.

The only thing flying were black birds, crows, and mosquitoes.

First time duck hunting where I didn't take 1 shot.

Oh well, that's why they call it hunting and not killing.

Don't feel too bad big D, I went several times this year too and never fired a shot. It really was not much of a early season for most folks. At least you went goose huntin. Sometimes that's all it takes to make me happy :salude:

That kind of success is typicall of some of the WMA's. Use google earth to locate some potholes in your area and see if you can get permission to hunt them.
