New hunting buddies.

Postby Dbrucker13 » Tue Jul 02, 2013 11:18 am

Recently relocated to Virginia Beach area from Ohio western basin and looking for some people to hunt with. I have a lot of gear and would consider my self knowledgeable about the sport how ever being new to Virginia Beach I am not to familiar with the area or public land.

I didn't read the M word so I'm thinking you are not in the military , is that right ? VB is one of the cities that doesn't have a county seat which is against you plus a real large number of hunters that don't have any private land to hunt and 75 % of them are in the military and buddy up between them . Factor in that VB falls into the blind law area ( here is the link http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/hunting/regulations/waterfowl/waterfowl-blind-laws.asp ) and you have to find a friend with land or both can hunt the public .
Welcome to the board I think you will find some hunters in and around VB on here and if you want to drive 2 hours a hunt can be had with me .

 LD :welcome:

The hardest thing a duck hunter in Va. has to do is to Not read more into the blind laws then what is in black and white . Lewdog 1999

Read up on the rules. VA has more than needed. The way the blind laws are set up are not "comehere" friendly by any means. Know the laws well. A boat is a must for 99% of the places, and that is if you can find a spot that is not already taken over by ghost blinds or legit blinds. Make some friends and be willing to pitch in on manual labor and scouting. Money for gas and lending gear does not get you far with the group i hunt with. Get out and knock on some doors and scout, scout, scout and scout again.

If all else fails...buy a license and head south to NC...seems to be better hunting there from what i have seen in my last 2 seasons in VA. You can bet your ass if i get stuck in VA for more seasons after i get back from this deployment, i will be looking hard at hunting in NC over VA.

Start Scouting and working with the local chapters of various duck hunting organizations. Unfortunately, there are too many hunters and not enough locations in the Northern Virginia and Virginia Beach area. Virginia duck hunters, especially those that scout or partake to writing on line, are not particularly helpful to newcomers. There are some very restrictive blind laws in Virginia that favor the property owner so a free lance hunter has a difficult time getting started. Good Luck and half the fun is scouting and finding your own hunting location so you can snub the bastards that are too lazy to work for a good blind location in Virginia. Bomber Bob
