Welcome to VA! Couple things you need to do A.S.A.P... Read the VA. Regs. Alot more to it than climbing in yer boat and killing ducks! The key to killing VA.ducks is scouting..... Good time of the year to start poking around on the water, see what the birds are doing! Good Luck

easy now kahunna.

Welcome to the boards :welcome:

read the regs and then read them 10 more times. And then you will still have questions cause they arent clear enough.

hunting on the peninsula can be tough, scouting is key. I would start with the WMA's until you become more acclimated with our area.

ALSO.... a couple walk in hunts available thru our DGIF,( game dept) Hog Island and Doe Creek WMA's are offered thru a quota(draw) system. Time runs out for entry Sept 1st so ya would have time to just slip in! See the DGIF website, under Quota Hunts

Rag Island is been the starting point for many new-be waterfowler in this part of the state . I would say for you to hit the place the first day and look for another waterfowler doing the same thing . Using the idea that it isn't smart to hunt alone in a new spot make plans of meeting up again for a hunt . Other then that the best thing I can give you is don't hunt rivers here in the blind law area .

The hardest thing a duck hunter in Va. has to do is to Not read more into the blind laws then what is in black and white . Lewdog 1999
