First hunt was a warm up

Postby Have Gun Will Travel » Mon Sep 09, 2013 10:27 am

Saturday we hit my farm which had just been cut. The geese started in just as shooting light came in and we were done by 7:10 with 43 geese and 4 bands. The one I know of was a locally banded bird. We had a 12 yr old with us who had just shot his first goose the day before. I'd say he's gotten spoiled right out of the gate.

No Birds to be seen, just keep moving people. Thats a lot of meat.

I have one question for the goose hunting. Limits and posession X and Y during the the early season. You then pack them away in your freezer and along comes the regular season which the limit and posession is way way way lower than early season. Explain to me how the feds feel when the open your freezer and see 45 geese in there. How do they know when they were shot? I kind of blows holes in their ability to write any citations for limit infractions on geese in my opinion. What say you?
Cheers

Ive given a lot of meat away on this second go round. I do still have a ton of it in the freezer but msot of it will be eaten up at our game/seafood cookout we do each year. Now to add some dove meat......

Right now it is easy. Young dumb birds that havent been shot at. By now they are getting an education and by the time the season comes in they know where is safe and when to fly. Once they wise up we're back to praying for ice in MD and DE until the next hatch of dumb birds.

Another possession limit question. This one will blow the newbies minds.

Do birds you have mounted and hanging on the wall count against your possession limit? You have the bird in possession , so it should count right?
