Figured I would join this site at some point, I always read on it and I definitely could do some learning here (I'm 16 and have only hunted ducks/geese for 4 years), today was worth posting about... So here is my early season report...I have been hunting a small river near my house (central va) and conditions have been a little iffy. We have been picking off a few here and there before and after school, and we got a pretty good idea of where the woodies wanted to be.
We found a spot the birds were going to and filling up on some sort of seed growing on the river banks. 4 of us hunted early morning and killed 5 birds (woodies), one got swept downstream before we got to it. We then put together a couple canoe floats in some "ducky" stretches and ended up with our 4 man limit of 12 woodies, didn't see any big ducks. I probably saw 75 woodies today, it was ridiculous. Spooked about 30 woodies and 6 or 8 teal at a spot within walking distance of the house, so we are going to try and hunt that on monday morning.
Here is a link to my blog with the pictures on it (files are too big). http://virginiayouthhunters.blogspot.com/2013/10/early-season-duck-hunt.html
