Being here is more like visiting a friend's home than being at a resort.

White Sulphur Springs, WV (PRWEB) November 26, 2013

The Greenbrier, the historic American resort in the foothills of West Virginia's Allegheny Mountains, has announced an exclusive new partnership with the Upper Brandon Plantation, offering resort guests and club members access to world-class waterfowl hunting excursions on the historic James River plantation. Jim Justice, owner of The Greenbrier, recently purchased the Upper Brandon Plantation, along with the Flowerdew Hundred, allowing guests of The Greenbrier resort and members of The Greenbrier Sporting Club access to duck and goose hunting, respectively, at these two historic 17th-century properties on the James River, east of Richmond, VA.

Waterfowl hunting season at the 2,200-acre Upper Brandon Plantation and the 1,300-acre Flowerdew Hundred runs from November 16-30, 2013 and December 18, 2013-January 25, 2014. Guests and members of The Greenbrier and Greenbrier Sporting Club, as well as members at The Resort at Glade Springs and Wintergreen, can book an exclusive new two-day hunt, which includes a Duck Hunt at Upper Brandon Plantation (day one) and a Goose Hunt at Flowerdew Hundred (day two), inclusive of a Virginia hunting license, guns and ammunition, waders and guided hunts with dogs. The two-day hunting excursion, priced at $2,500 per guest, also includes overnight accommodation at the Upper Brandon Plantation, all meals and beverages and a tour of the historic Manor House at Upper Brandon. All birds will be processed for guests and packed for travel. Transportation to and from Upper Brandon Plantation can be arranged, at an additional fee.

i hate the rich . theres not enough ducks in va to charge that much and to pay 2500.00 to shoot 2 geese is ludicrous. and as far as touring that place ive already seen it for free. hell for 2500.00 bucks ill take you hunting on the james, put you up at the local holiday inn and give you a free tour of shirley plantation

I feel sorry for all the hunters that live and hunt near but not on the plantations , just to pick a number say 5 , then times it by $2500. and take that money to holding birds in just the two spots ... I mean U & I send our pocket change to the Orgs. for them to raise and protect birds to send down the flyways , only for them to get caught up in the blind law protected rivers of Virginia . 'Make note' if I had to give a reason to do away with blind laws , Impoundments on public waterway would be it .

Could be much worse. At least they haven't announced plans for a massive subdivision on the properties. Not yet anyways.

I had me a friend that has since passed that had access to the Flowerdew and I killed several turkeys on it. Never duck hunted it.

Big money made duck hunting and the historic clubs. Why is now different??

You think the generally poor behavior we see out on the public land is tied to the decline of the duck clubs? Those guys had an appreciation for the right way to do things and that thought process trickled down to the unwashed masses, maybe. Today, any guy with a gun, 12 hot buys, license and a box of shells can go out and tear it up, shooting trash ducks at first light, skybusting, overcalling....they get called on it places like here and you would think someone violated their backside they scream so loud about how they can do it any way they want.

Thing for me is- I find it difficult to call someone out whos' legally huntin'. There was a time when I first started Duckin' that I'd crawl on my belly through 100yds. of razorwire just to get a shot at a Bufflehead, and just don't see it any different for Noobies now.
How do you tell someone whos' over 500yds. away to "stop shootin' Bufflehead, (while he's legally huntin') because you're messing ME up on good ducks"?

Did diplomatically offer a group my phone number so they could call and inform me when they'd be hunting there again so I could hunt somewhere else when they did. Told them I was glad they had fun, but it did affect how well I did.
Never heard from them again, and never saw them in that spot 520yds. away again either.

Would've told them they were dummies, but they were young, and they don't know what they don't know- (yet).
Besides-
Was 3 of them and one of me- just didn't feel like getting my arse whipped that particular morning, was in a hurry :lol3:
