Me and a friend had a pretty good day 12/17/05 On "the Mighty James" With the cloud cover, the ducks seemed to want to work a little better, Man, I missed some easy shots???? Again, should have killed a limit of mallards , But only managed to bring home only 3 for dinner  along with the buffs and Ruddies that seem to be everywhere

Did not do a lot of banging 12/24/05, but what I saw I jumped all over. Had 3 mallards circle, cup up and commit. A pretty sight to behold, managed to kill the greenhead and one of the hens before the "blew de joint". The suzy took it pretty bad but the drake did not have a single feather out of place, so big and fat that he is going on "de wall". Just trying to replace ducks that I lost in the house fire

I hunt the chick and you want to know where all the ducks went, I can tell you. The ducks are still around, however the location of the ducks would be on impoundments. Impoundments draw all the ducks off natural foods found on the river. We need a very cold snap to freeze up the impondments so the ducks would return to the river and possibly more ducks would migrate down with the cold front. So far my blinds have taken 86 ducks for the year but if we don't get some more ducks in for the rest of the season, it could be very slow.

Ducks on the Chick

Postby Flyway Kennels » Wed Jan 04, 2006 5:11 pm

Oatbed,
You must have some blind locations because i have been hunting the Check off and on this year and i certainly havn't killed 86 ducks. More like 2. Got one on monday one lonely single goldeneye. I hope we get a real cold snap.

Hunted a beaver pond in Suffolk today. Between the rain and the wind, saw a lot of birds. No big ducks, mostly Teal, Ringers, Woodies and Hooded Mergs. Ended up with one hooded Merg, one woody and two Ring Necks.
