8 Month Chocolate Lab Male - Needs A Home

Postby ScaupHunter » Mon Nov 25, 2013 5:03 pm

I am presently fostering an 8 month old Chocolate Lab named Buster. I was asked by a close friend to find him a home where he could run and get some training. He has a sweet disposition, is taking to obedience training well, and loves water retrieving. I have a thread posted on the hunting dog forum about him. A fella that goes by Jusducky from the Seattle area is taking about taking him but has not made up his mind. I want to get the word out on Buster. Shipping him cross country is very expensive. Most of the folks who have asked for him are in the Midwest or east coast states. I would much rather find him a good home with a local hunter.

If your looking for a dog to start hunting training with he will be a good option. You can see all the info on him in my post on the hunting dog forum.

Your house would be a great place for him. Right now I am waiting for Jusducky to see if be can convince his wife that they need a new pup. If that doesn't work out Billsarima is serious about taking him. Either place would be great for Buster. Kids to play with, training and hunting in his future. I ran two more obedience sessions this afternoon. He is improving on his basic obedience quickly.

Buster is a great pup. He is steadily improving on obedience with just a couple days effort. He is a pleaser and loves to lay with his head on your lap or under your legs to nap. He is going to need proper basic obedience training then on to hunting training. Buster and Bella are getting on fabulously. The pup doesn't have a mean bone in his body and loves to play with other dogs .

I haven't checked him for gun shyness yet. I am starting him out slow by throwing a couple of metal pots down then giving him a treat. If I have him for an extra week I will get him to a point where I can work the gun introduction process to see how he responds.

I don't need two dogs in training!

I have two Washington State families looking at taking him. Hopefully, he will be on his way to a new family and a long hunting life with a new owner in the next week or so.

Saturday is the day. Buster will be meeting his new family that afternoon. I plan to run an hour north to meet them to help shorten a long drive.

Buster is doing much better on basic obedience. He is loosing weight quickly and is starting to show muscles where they should be. He spent last night sleeping with his head on my leg after a hard workout and dinner. Bella was asleep with her head on the other leg. It is amazing how dogs tug at your heart. I am going to miss him after 1 week of spending time with him.

ScaupHunter...
It was nice to meet you today. Buster's ride home was a long one but he was fantastic. He cuddled up next to my daughter and laid his head in her lap most of the ride. I appreciate all you've done to make this happen. He's in the process of meeting the rest of the family as I write. Thanks again!!!!

You are very welcome. It was great to meet you guys today. Buster did just what I expected him too. He really is super good pup. It is good knowing he went to a home where he will be loved and hunted. It would be great if you can keep us up to speed on his progress.

Worked Buster today. Loves the water and has so much drive. First got him to sit then threw the bumper at a pond. Took about everything I had to hold him there until I got him to sit again then released on his name. Looked like a bullet as soon as I released him. Brought the bumper back but really wanted to play. I will really be working on basic obedience. Found he is not scared of gunshots as I had my daughter stand about 20yds away fire the shotgun while I had him sitting next to me. As she shot I threw the bumper and released Buster on his name. Again great retrieve but then wants to play. For the 1st time out he did well. We spent probably 20 min. to a half hour training.
