Any local Chessie breeders?

Postby brad0861 » Wed Dec 04, 2013 1:22 am

Well... I have been hunting the dogs pretty good this year and they are going on eight years old so I figure it may be time to start looking for a new pup. I have only owned springers and labs so I figured I would try a Chessie this time around. I figured a chessie would do good in the East-side freezing temps too. My springer doesn't hold up that great in low teens and he is the primary dog I hunt with. I am interested in good hunting lines, possibly running hunt tests and a breeder close to the Yakima area. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Fireweeds out of Idaho has produced some great dogs. Worth checking out. I've hunted over a dog out of their program and he is a badass!!

With chessies I wouldn't limit your search to local breeders. If you're on the Fuge send a pm to Happy Gilmore, he has chessies and probably can point you in the right direction.

You could also check the classifieds at RTF and/or team Chesapeake.

I hunted geese on the east side last weekend and the guy who put me up had a master hunter Chessy that he had just studded out to another Chessy owner. His dog was fantastic looking and was picking up goose after goose, we even had him run a blind about 500 yards or more to locate some geese that landed just to get them back in the air and not to create competition for our spread. I am a lab guy but I would highly recommend a puppy from him. I will post a picture or two from last weekend of him. He had his MH title at age 3. PM me and I will pass along some contact information.
