Would like to get in on a diver hunt

Postby jedijon » Tue Dec 17, 2013 1:25 pm

This is officially my "learning" year. I've walked, waded, and kayaked to spots around Moses Lake and have found birds - 1 to 3 here and there. That means my license, and my hunting gear purchases have been worth it! Heck, I went with a buddy and we forgot a goose call...so we called 'em in with our mouths.

I'd like to 'try before I buy' with divers...long lines and a new set of decoys...hmm. And it'd be nice to meet some new folks hunting. So, if anyone has room; I'd be up for it. The closer to Moses Lake the better - and if you want to hear about (or come up and see) some spots I think are at least modestly productive around here, I'd be all for it. I'm no expert but I'd love to learn. Thanks in advance to those who can help me see some bluebill/etc. Jon

I was just thinking of putting a post together like this as well. I am interested in a diver hunt, and jedijon if you need a partner let me know. I am willing to traverse the almighty pass to hunt the east. I do have some bluebills, couple dozen, redheads, buffies. Will be painting a couple cans as well here in a couple days.

Hmm, I have a tender boat AND I live reasonably close to Moses Lake. Seems like we should be able to work something out Tealer?

I have been on exactly two goose hunts this year. With the freeze and the fog the birds on my fields won't pattern. Fog hasn't lifted here in 4 days.

It has been hit or miss on the Columbia the past few weeks. We had a great diver "pass" shoot last Monday when it was cold, but with the warming, things have ground to a halt. It is still a little early for prime diver season. Getting closer though. Need more fresh birds to move in. You don't have to invest a lot to get divers in. It can be done with as little as 6-8 decoys, although more is sometimes much better.

Seriously when will this guy go away? It's amazing that one person can turn a site that used to be fun and resourceful into his own cesspool of incomplete sentences and senile ramblings.

Well guys, here's what I contribute - willingness, 1/2doz asst divers if you want to use 'em [unrigged :( sad], time on ML if you want it in trade for your generosity! and...I dunno, I can probably bring some scones or something :) I've got a 2 person inflatable kayak and a couple life-vests. Yes, I'm certainly beginning to realize that might be more applicable for an "in trade" hunt on ML spillway, but I thought it could be used to chase dead birds and place the spread on a shore-based hunt on the Columbia. Dunno, I never have done it before!

PM me if you want to go - I've got a lot of availability in the next few days. Thanks for all the replies.
