Little bit O anger today

Postby Tealer » Fri Jan 17, 2014 9:10 pm

We scouted a spot for cans and reds, they have been there all week . ALL WEEK. Wake up to fog, damn. Ended up with our 63 birds today. Altough not at all what we were after. We shot a couple wigeon a nice gadwall. And a pile of these?

If there is ever an open seat on a shoot like this SIGN ME UP. Looks like a riot. And I could probably use the practice lol.

Go seahawks! Pass the cooteroni...
I went out to Central Ferry last weekend, flushed a hudred geese in the dark and set out dekes in dead calm. Sun came up and wind started and shitodear the foam blew from tops of whitecaps - 50mph+. What birds flew by couldn't stop and turn agaist the wind, but hey - better than sitting at home. Only two more weekends to try so good luck fellas!

The one game bird I have never shot a limit of! Those are dumber than sea ducks. Good shoot guys.

I always hear east side guys complain about fight rafts of coot. I figure if we all,one day a year shoot a limit maybe 10,000 coots wouldn't ruin a hunt.

Rather have a few hunts ruined than eat one. That and it is not worth the cost of the ammo!

Really? Half the guys on the WA forum have eaten coot. Most love my pepperoni. A lot of coot in that. That and I think I fired 18 shells, 3 wig and a gaddie plus the coot. That cost me roughly 8.65? Cheap entertainment.

I shot one once to see what it would taste like and to see how big their gizzard was (was told they were big for their size). Breast meat was thin, don't really remember the taste but doesn't seem to have tasted bad. Didn't care much for the fine black feathers that seemed to take forever to pick off. I think for volume shooting I'll stick to clay pigeons. Might I ask....how do they ruin a hunt?

Out here they raft up in huge black wads drawing puddle ducks and divers to the middle of the river. Hard to get birds to play ball when 300 yds out there is a black wad.

Hey Tealer - is that like a "black hole" for ducks? (I'd say "black duck hole" but BDs are a real species back east)
Anyhow, you could take all your old, worn out dekes and paint em black and create your own black wad . Pull those ducks in and maybe a year's supply of cooteroni makings would swim in too...
Oog, wait - I just gave myself a whopper of a nightmare.... sorry guys.

Some of those coots are mine and I can tell you two things.
1. They were flying well that day, I smoked several decoying and so did Tealer.
2. While they are not as good as a ribeye, they eat just fine if you take care of them.

Everyone should shoot at least one limit of coot a year.
