I have my own theories, but wanted to see what others could add. Generally hunt from Mesa to Patterson.

They saw that the fuel taxes were going up and realized no one could afford to go out and shoot'em anymore so they just moved on?

My guess is weather, mostly. First too warm, the the instant freeze made 'em skip us.
But its not all duckless. Just damned inconvenient. I tried to drive to mesa yesterday but it was too foggy to take so I settled for central Ferry and got a bufflehead and a mallard. Had a couple of shots at geese but they are pretty shy now. Also found two coots and a handful of silver Kent hulls somebody left behind on the bank - bad form dude, at least carry them out if you shoot em. Learn to cook burritos or gumbo or something to use coot.
Dang that fog was cold!

Been a pretty rough year, but there's still been birds around if you put the time in to find em. Haven't gotten out as much as I'd like, but we found birds in some unusual spots and killed a fair amount.
