I know this could be a helluva opinionated topic but let's see what the popular vote is ? Its difficult but let's say you couldn't have both for one reason or another. We've all been there. Let's hear it folks

He's asking which is most important, being on the X, or having a good setup, and is trolling.

I'll go first, thus subjecting self to contrary opinions that poke or pick at mine...

Being on the X is good but I never am, yet manage to kill lots of ducks.

I feel that having your setup right, calling well at the right time, and being still n patient...are more important than being on the X even when you are (on the X).

You gotta be good at setting up quick, good at calling, good at shooting, (a good retriever helps) and good at picking up quick and leaving quickly.

The quicker you can get in and out, the quicker that ducks can come in and loaf around after you are gone.

That's how it works for me anyway.

If you want to kill a lot of birds consistently then being on the X is the best option if possible. A functioning tard can kill limits when on the X. Lots of times u don't even need decoys. This really isn't even a question, being on the X is best option if possible.

A great response by aunt Betty. I'm not a rookie just fine tuning, however it seems when your working and have a family its hard to scout. Hard to be on the X .. So when you load up at zero dark thirty and get all setup, then realize shortly after sunrise your not on the x even though you thought it would be good.. So I guess if birds aren't working good then the setup should be changed up a bit...or pickup and relocate which can take time. Its fun to hear others point of view.

Finding the X in 12,832 acres of timber sounds easy...right? Try it sometime.

We hunt in washington, hence the wa forum. If u scout u can find the X. If u don't scout and aren't on the X your setup is inherently more important. Yes, if birds don't work well change something or if they're working a diff area change to that area. This all seems like common sense to me.
