Season end list

Postby mallardstalker » Sat Jan 25, 2014 11:17 pm

Ok guys,
Season has ended or will end for others tomorrow. What gear do you have to get rid of, or need to add to your gear list.

Things I hae acquired over the years that I just don't use enough: reactor mallard call. Always seem to use my echo or my whistle. Single chair blind. Pop up style fits into backpack carry case. Ended up being far too heavy for the amount of walking I do. Has dog door built in too!
Aero pull string spinner decoy. Decoy worked well in standing water, but not moving water. Really don't use it anymore.
Studded tires for your hunting vehicle. Got a new truck and have snow tires that were on a ford ranger for one season.

Things I want/need.
Always looking for someone's old decoys to build the stockpile, so if you are looking to upgrade yours, let me know.
Weights and line for decoys. Each year it seems I find at least 5 decoys. I throw them in the decoy bag and forget them. I have well over a dozen that now need to be rigged.
Ideas/materials for a lightweight and small portable blind. Marsh grass color.
Practice on the goose call. Got one for Xmas, and I can say my duck calling has come along in the last two years nicely (imagine that, practice works) but my goose calling is horrendous.
Shotgun shells. I seem to always "need" more no matter how big my stockpile is.

That's it off the top of my head. Mods, if this is too much like a classified, sorry, feel free to move it

Looking to add some DSD cacklers and honkers.

Need to build new decoy carts. (New designs)

Build new fiberglass marsh boat molds, then build the boats.

Prep the new to me truck for an epic Canada adventure.

Upgrade from a 12' enclosed trailer to an 18' tandem axle w/ramp.

Work on my goose calling.

Also need replace 2 doz redheads, 5 dozen BB, doz cans, doz old squaws.

Finish the repaint on the sled.

Finish my captains license

Dang, this off season is going to be rough.

That's quite the offseason list! You gonna be doing any spring salmon? Been reading the forecasts for this year and it looks great. Let me know if you have any puddler decoys to unload! Who are you making boats for now, because I know you already have quite a few of your own.

You might as well get a box truck instead of killing your poor toyota. Two foot-itis extends into more areas than just the boat world lol...

I upgrade to a Chevy 3500 diesel, crew cab long bed. Less miles then the taco and better mileage. Working on building a rack now so I can haul 6 more layouts, total of 18 in one trip.

I should be fishing springers 7 days a week once I get back from Ohio. I'm still working with Waterfowl Works and TDB. I should be building marsh boats in the NW by April.

Nice! Going to write off the truck payments as a business expense? :clapping:

Even better! Business write-off?

You build/sell layouts too? We may spend some time on the phone.

I sell layouts but I don't build them yet. I want to build here as hauling them from Ohio to here eats a week and $1200.
