Decoy Casting Weekend - This is It

Postby ScaupHunter » Thu May 15, 2014 7:54 am

Just dropping a quick post to say the decoy casting weekend is coming up fast. It is being held at Bknilvrs place with DHC members from a wide area attending. Any DHC members in the area of Lake Stevens over the weekend or close enough to drive by and say hi are welcome to drop in. I believe all of the folks who need to have my personal cell or Bknilvrs for contact for directions, etc.... If not drop me a pm here and I will send you my cell number.

Looking forward to it! Took the day off work so I could finish getting things cleaned up and get some space cleared for casting. Hope to see some new faces.

So after 1.5 days of steady casting with a lot of fun things learned all around we have managed to cast

150 heads & 85 bodies. We have been casting a wide mix of bodies. Everything from mallards and teal, to Scoters & Harlis We have had up to 5 guys at a time casting heads and bodies We covered a casting with all the tips and tricks to make sure you get a full mold casting, along with putting keels in the bodies, restle coating and various options for coating the decoys bodies. Tomorrow we will have a couple of new guy casting and learning the process. The plan is to get into the new casters dialed in and then teach how to place eyes, fix imperfections in the castings, and other fine detail tips on decoy making.

We have been having a bunch of fun and managed to cast a few decoys along the way. Bknilvr will be posting up a bunch of pictures.

One more run of molds and we will be wrapping up the weekend. Well over 300 heads and close to 200 bodies were cast over the weekend. We all got to spend time with some great DHC Members. Everybody met someone new from DHC. We even had a Fuge member attend.

I'm thinking about maybe hosting the next one between det and deployment. I have 4.5 acres on Whidbey so we could do a campout even. I moved into my RV so everybody would need to bring a tent or plan on staying in town but there would be a toilet available.
