We are all inundated with advertisements telling us we need the latest and greatest calls, decoys and assorted gear and I agree that good gear, calling and dekes makes life easier. But the number one problem I've witnessed in the duck blind is poor shooting. I don't care how sweet your dekes are, how well you can call or whether your blind bag floats or not. Can you shoot?
The good news is if you are honest, there's still time to learn how to shoot properly before the season. Hit the skeet range and then bump it up to sporting clays. If you can, find a mentor that will teach you the right way to point a shotgun and I guarantee you will have a more successful season this year than last.
So who is out shooting on a regular basis?
