Beginner help

Postby Wvduck » Mon Nov 05, 2012 7:14 pm

Hey I was just wondering how to get started or where to start duck hunting. I have never or know anyone who duck hunts. I am an avid deer, squirrel, turkey, rabbit hunter just always wanted to go duck hunting but lost on where to start. Thanks so much, Tyler

Where you located? I was the same way until 99, went on a snow goose hunt in TX and was hooked.

Yeah you might have to go through some rough country but you can definitely find some birds. Just have to have Mother Nature to cooperate this year and we could be on the "X".

Well getting back to topic here. Wvduck I am just going to tell you and every true duck hunter will agree is that it only takes one time duck hunting and you will be hooked. I can't even begin to tell you how much money I have invested in duck hunting. I mean you figure $50 to $100 bucks per dozen duck decoys, $80 to $150 bucks a dozen geese decoys and then weights are $30 bucks a dozen if you buy them. Then you add waders shotgun shell that are $15 to $28 bucks a box and believe me you will blow through some shells if you are just starting duck hunting. But all it take is that one morning when you get up 4 hours before shooting time, get to your spot through out your decoys and the ducks just come in like you were leading them by a string. I have been very fortunate to have had a lot of great hunting in my life this far and I hope that I will be blessed to have a lot more. No matter how much money you invest in it, it's all worth it when your plan comes together.
