Hey guys,
I am pretty new to duck hunting and I was just wondering if anybody has any tips or tactics they would like to share. Also, does anybody hunt around Morgantown or Petersburg WV?
Thanks

I live in Morgantown but have a farm on the South Branch Of the Potomac in Petersburg. I have been wanting to hunt the Mon but I'm not sure of a good place to start. Also, does anybody even know where hunting would be allowable on the Mon in Motown?

You can hunt anywhere on the Mon as long as your not in city limits or within 500 feet of a house. I always wanted to put a boat in below the locs in town and go towards Fairmont because there isn't much of anything threw there. You may be able to go north too I've never been up that way. I've always been told with fishing private land for stocked trout streams as long as your below the high water marks of the bank your legal. I'm not 100% sure about that but if so it may be the same for ducks. Now if you have a boat you should be fine tying it up to a tree and stand in the water on the rivers edge. We called the DNR about a spot on the Tygart River I found this year to see if we could hunt it. Theres a little boat ramp off the road that wasn't listed on the DNR page and we don't know the land owners but he said yes that we could hunt on the river there with no problems.

Quackattack,
I may have to try that out. I haven't done much scouting along the Mon but I am sure there are some birds there.

When I fish the Mon I see a ton of ducks and geese down threw there. I only know where the ramp behind 84 lumber is and would go to the locs to fish. Supposedly there is a ramp under I-79 just past the I-68 split if you look to the west at the river up threw there that would be the place I would hunt. I think you turn left at the light coming down from university avenue and go back up under I-79 to find that ramp, maybe you already know where it is. I bet cheat lake would be pretty good hunting too if you stay away from ice and houses lol.
