Any hunters out there on the bay? I was out there last weekend and was pretty disappointed so far. Did not see half of the ducks I saw during scouting. Only ended up with 2 red heads.
Shore hunted the bay yesterday. Ended up with 2 mallards and a bluebill. Looks like the divers are coming down now. Also saw quite a few more swans than last week.
Interesting segment on the DU tv show earlier this week. They were wading out into 3 feet of water and layout boat hunting. Was that off of the State Park?
Went out of Gaenos this morning and had some action for a few minutes before the fog set in for a long time. Some cans and bills cruising around but nothing real exciting. We were maybe a mile or so out and heard a few others emptying some shells also. Very spotty action. No big bird numbers from what we saw
Launched at Suamico last Wed. and had very little action. A few bills and some buffs.
Hunted out of Bay Shore on the east side yesterday morning until about 10 am. Fairly good action with several bills, goldeneyes, and black scoters. Alot of trailers in the lot but not crowded at all where we set up. Heard quite abit of shooting which seemed to keep some of the birds moving. Flagging from the layouts seemed to work well on the scoters.
Many birds rafted up today out towards the shipping channel roughly between Gaenos Beach and Bay Shore landings. Several thousands according to some other hunters we spoke to later. Suamico landing was iced over some but very useable. Might be a good ending to the season for those who can get out there.
Can anyone verify if tha Suamico landing is useable or is the water too low for an outboard? Hearing many stories of extra beach areas along SW Green Bay.
Anyone have any luck in Green Bay this weekend? I was out all weekend, but not much working the decoys. Ended up with 1 blue bill, 1 red head, 2 GW Teal, and 1 BW Teal. Not that great for 2 days and 3 guys! Hoping we start seeing a push of new birds.
I was about to say you did exceptionally well for this season, until your "2 days, 3 guys comment." If you shot any ducks on Pete's Lake lately, you are doing far better than I.
I've actually thrown in the towel on Pete's or at least the usual spots I hunt there.
I figured I would bring this post back. How is everyone doing on the bay so far? We have had a great start to the season with mallards and teal. Not much for divers yet though.
That is why I say Green Bay. I am hunting an hour away from the city. Just looking to see what numbers are looking like. It's a large body of water. But I agree, no need to put specifics.
Very good hunt on G.B. yesterday with many Goldeneyes hitting the decoys. Bluebill numbers seemed to have diminished somewhat over the past 10 days from what we've seen.
How was the pressure out on the bay thus weekend? I went out last weekend and had so many guys around not being respectful and left a sour taste in my mouth. That's the third time this year I have had issues with other people. It's a shame really, I've been hunting here for 15 years and until this year have never ran into anyone that wasn't friendly.
Great. I may give it a shot this week and see how things are. I'm really going to get one last good diver hunt I'm this year.
