I'm pretty new to the area, and was wondering if anyone knows the best areas a guy can get out to hunt without a boat for ducks and geese around Madison. directions/where to park/ect...
Mostly during the weekdays. a nice public area, a field, a marsh, so on....

Lake Mendota has some wonderful coot hunting. If you can get away from the crowds!

Had some family issues to deal with on Saturday so I couldnt make it out for opening day, but I did manage to get out bright and early on Sunday morning...Went back to my old high school hot spot on Lower Mud Lake and actually did pretty well...We were surrounded by other hunters, prolly about 6-7 other hunting parties on Lower Mud Lake on Sunday morning and I really feel like we did more shooting then any other group...Came away with 8 birds total, 5 BWT, 1 Hen Mallard, 1 Drake Northern Shoveler, and of course 1 Coot(for dog training purposes lol :fingerhead: ) Heres a couple of pics from the day, I had a few more but the pic file sizes were too big to upload.

I am from the Madison area also and am new to duck hunting. there are a lot of places around to hunt by foot or boat, you just need to spend some time checking them out, Many of small ponds and marshes are dry this year. Get a WI outdoors atlas and field guide. This will show you where the different public area are so you can check them out

I am new to Madison area too, looking for some help duck hunting? I don't make it out much, just a creek or something to walk.

Anyone have any suggestions where I can try?

Thanks.

Pretty much all of Mendota is off limits. Also on Lower Mud you have to stay away from the houses. I try to hunt private land but their is some decent diver hunting on the Madison Lakes if you know what ur doing later in the year.
