First time Saskatchewan hunt

Postby hunter2good » Fri Nov 30, 2007 9:33 pm

alright, here it goes... me and some buddies are trying to head up to canada this fall for some hunting. what all do i need to be able to hunt up there? what do i need to cross the border in 08'. ( i hear you cant have a pervious record?) hows the land situation up there? i hear its real easy to get onto private land. what are the limits? how do i go about gettin hunting licenses?

what about guns over the border, and ammo? what area of SK does the best shooting? im looking more into honkers then ducks... what about crossing into the US? what laws do i have to watch out for when i get back into the states, about birds in possesion? if anybody can give me a URL where i can find this stuff, i would really appricate it. ive looked around but havent found much out there. im just looking for some good information that i can start getting everything together and know what im getting myself into..

thanks

chris

I go to Saskachewan every year for 6 days
I grew up there when I was a kid
the people there are the most hospitable you will ever meet
Anyways here are some pics and info to get you going.

www.environment.gov.sk/ca/licences
www.quill.lakes.com

If you go over to goose hunting chat index and look up the old posts about goose hunting in Canada and browse over you will find all the info you need to answer some of those questions

and here are some pics to get the ticker going

Sorry about the links;
here are the correct ones

www.environment.gov.sk./ca/licenses

www.quill-lakes.com

www.saskmotels.com

www.accuweather.com

www.cbsa.gc.ca for Canada Border

Contact RCMP for DU violations

Contact local Municapalities for maps

You can go to Google maps for a satellite view
and go back to canada goose hunting chat index for some old posts that touch on some of your questions.

Remember when you go to Saskatchewan..it is not a slam dunk..it takes precision scouting by the moment and field opps change by the hour and competition is heavy from guided hunts as the geese will be in their fields first and you might wait for the geese to move on to hospitable farmers.

Treat the farmers with respect and useful gifts of appreciation.. no half tracks and trailers...and take back home what you shoot..spend lots of money to help the local business economy..dress warmly..bring the right gear for the situation..
Scout fast and efficient and don't boast in local bars..try to get proper permission..snow geese are not dumb and may not feed in the same fields consistently

Good Luck and take the time to learn
