Nesting?

Postby Greg Wile » Sat May 28, 2005 5:21 pm

What does it look like in the rest of the country for nesting conditions for water fowl? Lots of water here in the Atlantic zone, and lots of birds.

I heard it is pretty dry through much of SK and AB which really hurts the nesting, MB has fairly good water conditions this spring.

The widespread droughts of AB/SK have been going on for many years now, almost 8 years now if memory serves me right.

Here are a few links that shows the extent of the drought.

The last map shows the prolonged drought (04)

Western MB getting big rains this past week as is Southern part of AB.

The Swan River to Russel MB really needed the rain as they have had drought conditions there the last couple of years.--but further south of there, it is flooding... And flooding in the High River area of AB too.

I wish the some of those heavy rains would shift and hit from Moose Jaw up to to the Wynard area of SK.

those are some great pics you guys posted. I'll try to remember my camera next time i head out. Very wet all over the southern portion of the province. I think we have already surpassed our expected rainfall for the year. But there are sooo many birds here right now...Mallards, pintails, shovelers, canvasback, red heads, ect. Only 85 days to our season here and i have "the fever" bad. Can't remember seeing this many ducks at this time of year. Lots of big honkers around too.
When do your seasons open?

Kris.
Is it september the 8th yet???
