galena marsh in Laporte county

Has anybody ever hunted here i see that they have draw hunts was just curious i drove by it the other day and it looked pretty good. and also have any of you hunted the potato creek reduction hunt for geese in years past i see they are doing it again. Do you need a boat fot that? thanks any info would help

The only bad thing about potato creek is that you can only shoot geese. We seen a lot more ducks than geese.

Not really sure about the boats, everyone there brought their own. The spot we hunted you had to have a boat to get to it.

ive hunted the galena marsh many times.... beware that place is very-very-very dangerous!!!! it is a bog.. there is no bottom to it, its mushy roots\mud and then it will drop off into 10ft. of water. there are lots of birds there at times and then there are none, across the street from that place is a privately owend place called seven springs, that is a huge roosting place for many birds in the area but the whole area in general is hunted pretty hard...

do you need a boat to hunt it? do they have blinds to hunt from? i would like to hunt there but i dont have a boat sooo!

yea you need a boat, there are no blinds, this is a "true" public land, there are no draws or blinds, just show up and hunt, we use a canoe and just get in the weeds wich are pretty thick and use that for hide.

The Potato Creek hunt I got drawn for was a joke. The lake froze just before the hunt and all the geese left. I think they are planning it earlier now. If not, it's a waste of time. :huh:
