New Guy, Valparaiso

Postby M2000shooter » Mon Nov 02, 2009 2:12 pm

Hey all. Just joined up and thought I'd say hello. I've been out of waterfowling for a few years and just decided to drag the dekes out and see what's flying. Most of my experience is hunting puddlers on the public grounds. However, I'm tired of the early morning blank outs, the pre-season blank outs, and the sky busters when I do get it. So, I'm going to be hitting the out of the way spots. I own a 14' wide bottom canoe and a 17' deep V. I'm hoping to acquire a lay out boat and start hunting the bigger lakes in the area.
I'm also looking for a hunting partner(s). I've been in Valpo 3 years, but haven't duck hunted since I moved here. I've been chasing those brown skinny cows in the woods.

Thanks for the welcome guys. I got out this morning and shot my first duck in 4 years. Kind of nice to be out again.

ddragon: Thanks. As of now, it seems like November is better driving weather than duck hunting weather. I might actually take the car out for a cruise before putting it away for the year.

The cooler weather will bring the birds down and then the games begin.

Welcome to the "region" lol good luck finding spots that aren't already locked up. If you can get off during the week the draws are not too bad at most places, but yea you still have the sky bustin fools out there, but thats pretty much anywhere unless it's private

I too am new to the Valparaiso area and am looking for good places to duck hunt. I am trying to avoid the giant public areas where it would be packed with hunters. Any ideas on good public lands that wouldn't be super crowded?

Not many good public areas up here that aren't crowded. If someone was to post one here, it certainly would be crowded very shortly.
