New Ducks?

Postby boilers22 » Thu Nov 19, 2009 1:22 pm

Just wondering if you north zone guys have noticed any new ducks come in with this cooler weather. Last I looked some cooler temps are forecasted for next week so hopefully that will help the south zone opener. Six more days for me...

I live a couple counties over and have seen snows nearly every year too. I've seen them fly over Indy and near Lafayette too. Don't think that they are the huge flocks they get out on the plains though. More like 1-2 dozen.

As for new birds, none of the ponds or skies near my place look like they have any.

Ive seen them.. i just dont really see the need for them.. I do well sitting in a 18 ft boat, why buy a layout.. Plus none of my friends would wanna sit in the tender boat and wait to pick up birds.. Greedy bastards

Only reason I ask is that I was working out by the lake and seen three guys hunting from layout boats.

Im guessing you were working by the port.. Ive seen a guy by my house with layout boats on his trailer but never seen him out on the lake.. Most people just hunt out of there boats.. Layout boats would be fun to try just dont really wanna dish out the cash for them.. Im just more comfortable in the boat just in case things go sour with the weather.. Plus we hunt four guys outta the boat and its fun to get to talk and bs with each other.. i dont think 4 guys in layout boats would be to safe hunting right next to each other.. And Ddragon, what kinda waves can the boats handle safely? now you got me curious

Not sure I turn down the chance to go.
But they told me they could handle big waves and are very safe.
They are right here in NW. Indiana.

I find that hard to believe. I can't imagine being in a 1 foot high boat looking at a 12 foot chop and not thoroughly believing I'm going to drown.

If your working by horseshoe thats my neck of the woods. Hunt a little bit by the East chicago boats but not a whole lot.. Ton of geese where ive been hunting but they stay in the park with just a occasional trip to the beach where you cant hunt.. Usually can intercept a few but they have been tough lately.. Should go out and give it a try sometime...

Working at the ameristar casino I've seen a few boats out there lately, none today but did see a nice raft of divers. They were to far out to tell what exactly they were. I would like to try it but my 16' flatbottom boat is a little to small. Good luck out there seems to be more and more birds showing up

The first boat a i hunted out of was a 16 ft jon, it was wide and had taller sides.. There are a few spots you can hunt with a smaller boat.. Litterally hunt within a 200 yards of the launch and still kill birds.. The main thing is to wait for a slight south west wind.. Lake will be smooth as glass.. If you need any info let me know..
