I can't speak for everyone else but I have not been seeing nearly the numbers of geese I normally see this time of year, even in the city spots. Football fields and parks that are normally full of geese are completely empty. The few places I am seeing geese are only holding a handful. There are geese around but the fields and water they are using is private and already spoken for. I have gotten out twice on public water and saw 40 geese flying. There was absolutely no response to flagging or calling/not-calling from those guys. They had their feeding/roost pattern down. Oh well.

Switching to teal this weekend will hopefully be more productive.

I've been scouting 800 sq/miles since June 1st and I will agree there are no where near the birds we had last year. We shot 22 this past weekend opening day two and Monday 20 with a band from Ontario that my girlfriend shot and was her second bird ever, :hammer: . We shot 148 last Sept. and I highly doubt we will even get into triple digits this year's early season. Keep scouting hard and I will keep ya posted on what I see. Good Luck!

We finished out the entire season last year with 308. Practically lived on goose meat but if you are willing to do the work to process them its worth it. Goose burger with bacon and pork mixed in is the best way besides jerky to prepare geese in my opinion. All shot in NE Indiana.

Everyone always talks about how much better the other side of the state is for hunting. But NE Indiana has a lot of birds if you go out and look for them.

NE Indiana has some good hunting if you put in the time I've got a few late season places that I drive from Warsaw up to......but on topic we DON'T have the birds we did last year and years past I'm not sure what's going on yet maybe that means a helluva migration this year or maybe a flop still TBD

My buddy was scouting on Saturday and saw about 400 birds move in that weren't here before then and he was also seeing lessers and a blue goose as well. Im hoping for a good early push this year where we can actually get on the ducks!

In the last week I have seen a few hundred come into LaPorte County. Numbers tripled on the lake I hunt. Didn't get out yesterday, but there was a boat blind hunting the spot I usually do and they harvested quiet a few.

Where do you hunt between Warsaw and Fort Wayne ?
The weather was same almost warmer in Canada and northern Michigan than here last week. the birds aren't migrating the 15th of September they may be grouping up but we have a long way till the big push boys.

Of course we have a long way until the "big push" but there are birds trickling down. You can't tell me that there are local lessers and blue geese in Indiana. We rarely see blues at all even when it's the heart of the migration where I am.

Teal migration is different from the rest of the ducks, that's why we have a separate teal season. Typically, teal will start moving south at the end of August or early September. I think the weather has the ducks in the same boat as us hunters, cornfuzed. That cold front snuck up and sent all the locals out. I haven't seen but one legitimate flock of teal. They are all still flying in singles/doubles and the numbers are ridiculously thin.

I live just north of Columbia city im sure we know some of the same people. We hunted 1/2 mile south of 30 and killed a lot of birds this early season off a field. Good chance they were coming off the pond where you work lol

LOL! I confused myself with the forum and thread jumping. Between that and Goose season now being closed I got mixed up.

As far as geese, the very next day after season closed I started seeing new geese. We will see how things go in a month when the crops are down.
