Hunting and fishing opportunities in the South Bend area

Postby SiouxperDave » Tue Dec 05, 2006 12:12 pm

How is the hunting and fishing in the South Bend area? My wife is hoping to do her residency in South Bend so we might be moving there in June.

It would be terrible for you compared to ND
but its prettygood!
Most of the duck and goose hunting is done
over water, since hunting in ND ive been
trying to change my ways, however it is
hard to get permission to hunt,

You can hunt almost anywhere on water as long
as you can get your boat in.

Keep in touch.
leave it better than you found it!!!

We found out yesterday that my wife will be doing her residency at Memorial Hospital so we'll be moving to South Bend in June.

:welcome: Hunting is pretty good here but you will be disappointed
compared to ND.
We do have a good # of canada's, but now the feds are letting anyone
with internet access destroy eggs
Gaining permission can be hard so most waterfowling is done on water,
in this area you can hunt on any water with a public launch (using your
best judgement around houses of course). I do have a few fields that I
have permission for. Always trying for more since hunting the ND way.

I dont fish much but access for that is really easy. Elkhart county has some really good bass (small and large mouth) on the two rivers and there are plenty of lakes around.

Good luck and best wishes
Ty in Elkhart

Thanks to everyone for the input and to pigeonflier and mmalino for the offers.

Hopefully I'll be able to get in a hunt or two this year. I'm a stay-at-home dad with a 9 month old daughter so I don't think I'll have much time to hunt. The first year of residency is a b*tch so my free time will be very limited.

My wife and I are headed to South Bend next weekend to house hunt. Does anyone have a recommendation for a mortgage lender?
