Things started very slow at the beginning of the season and my buddy and I managed a few on the area lakes. We finally lucked into an early picked corn field and were able to get our limits on the last three days. We just had a tougher time getting the birds to cooperate this year. The place we normally hunt just didn't pay off. Lots of birds, but they were traveling around us. It was really disappointing considering we had no competition in the area this year.

Finally some mallards. I hit up my public land spot in the south zone and managed to get my limit of ducks on sat. and today. I even managed to call in a lone goose to my little spread of puddle duck decoys. I'm definitely glad to see something other than woodies. I'm giving the birds a break tomorrow to do my last conditioning day with my dog so he can have a nice rest before the Michigan pheasant opener on Thursday.
