duck foods?

Postby cicobaila » Sat Sep 12, 2009 10:06 am

HI guys
I have a problem.
I have 3 littel lake to hunting ducks but inside there no foods for them.
The water is deep 4 ft. and so I can' t feed the ducks whit corn or other foods. There are only puddle ducks (mallard-greenwing-wigeon-gadwall).
I' d like to know if there some waterplants to plant.
Thanks Bye.

I'm also a newcomer here.

the place you want to look is the habitat page at duck hunters' refuge. there are a number of good ole' boys (campesinos sabios) there who know a thing or two about farming for ducks. there is a lot to be learned by reading the postings there. ... y.php?f=69

my thoughts on your ponds: figure out a way to drain them partially in the spring, and then plant the banks with a mix of the good stuff (proso millet, sudan grass, milo, buckwheat). Kill doves on it in the fall, then flood it in the winter, and kill some ducks.

Good luck

Ducks dont just eat plants. You could try to promote invertibrates. How I'm not sure but they love them.

We do it here by drying the pond and growing weeds that we mash so they will be underwater later. Not the best solution for your deep pond but there must be a way.

What part of "shall not be infringed" dont you understand?
