Got ducks on Pond now what?

Postby txhunter90 » Thu Jan 17, 2013 8:30 am

Ok we have a pond this year we have about 60 ringnecks that have been staying due to us bating it with corn we do not hunt it. We will continue to bait it we are doing it for next year. Is there anything else we can do to keep birds coming in and staying like what works well if we plant. Should we do wood duck boxes? any input would be great cant bait if we hunt it so trying to get something that will continue to bring them in.

I'm not an expert on duck by any means... But, I know ducks like water that has cover (ex. Cattails, trees, etc.); and vegetation in and around the water. I know some people will drain water out of the pond, plant vegetation and refill it back with water.

Something I like to do is keep one or two decoys on the pond and move them around every once in a while. I feel it gives the ducks confidence in the pond and tells them their is a food source their.
