Wood Duck Boxes

Postby JustStartin' » Sun Mar 10, 2013 9:03 pm

Im thinking on making wood duck boxes about 2-3 this year, and 2-3 mallard tubes. are the tubes effective. anyone have pictures of theirs.

The tubes are a bitch but mallards love them. I made mine out of straw and wire panel, but after a year they have gone to crap because my cows wrecked them. I would recommend using PVC or something of that nature. They really help out with survival of ducklings.

The tubes allow hens a safer place to nest to avoid ground predators...thus increasing the percentage that survives to hatch. The hen and the ducklings will abandon the nest and move to water shortly after the eggs hatch.

Put them out late if you have to...the hen may renest if she loses her first clutch.
