Planting rice

Postby Mikeg135 » Sun Aug 04, 2013 12:06 pm

We broadcasted some rice about 2 weeks ago in a beaver pond, but were unsure if it is taking. There is a lot foilage in the area. Our biggest concern is that we soaked the rice for a day and placed in pillow cases for 3 days per the manufacturer(wells rice). The rice started to germinate with a root hair starting to expose. By the time we threw it out that root hair was about 1/2 inch long. Did we wait too long be broadcasting it out?

It was thrown out in floating grass, on the bank (now covered in water) and in about 2-3 inches of water.

Agree with answer. The seeds you need are already there & can wait hundreds of years for germination when conditions are right, The substrate needs to completely dry out & then be under water the following year.
