Sago Pond Weed

Postby Islander Gunner » Sun Feb 02, 2014 6:33 pm

This type of SAV was recomended by a game biologist for planting in my millpond. Any one had any success in planting this stuff? Thanks, IG

I was informed by a Fisheries Biologist that Sago can spread and take over a pond. So, you have to decide whether you want ducks or take the risk of it spreading and possibly having an impact of fishing.

It can take over. That being said, if you a pond full of sago you generally have ducks. Its just what you want to manage it for

Its always duck season, there is just a long break from february to september.

anyone know how much light is needed for sago to grow? i have some beavers working their magic in a swamp behind my house which has limited light due to it being in the woods

It's been said that if you can see a white Styrofoam cup on the bottom then theres enough sunlight reaching the bottom to grow sago

I've always killed ducks in ponds full of sago. I love scouting a pond and seeing that stuff growing in it.

Question: The shallow areas of my pond have alot of leaves on the bottom. Do I need to remove those before planting the sago pond weed?
