How is the hatch looking???

Postby duckdog » Thu Jun 23, 2005 10:49 pm

Spring has come and gone now, what is everyone seeing for duck and goose hatche's? In NW Iowa duck hatches weem to be up from last year while the geese seem to be down some. And baby pheasant's everywhere.

In MN we had good nesting duck #s compared too the averages, but the broods count will be down due to the dold wet weather of May and early June. Same for ND and MB from what I have been reading. Most of Sk is fair nesting at best this spring (drought), same for AB

A bright spot for the Snow goose hunters is that there could be a bumper crop of goslings this fall. In the high artic, a early spring from 2 to 4 weeks this year. That could result in a bumper crop. As one guy put it, it has been the most favorable nesting conditions that he has seen in 40 years. But in nature you never know, 1 big snow storm and 1/2 the goslings would be gone.

I'm seeing lots of broods and a good number of bigger sized ducklings.Apparently they are having good success raising broods. :salude:
My lab is still the best hunting partner there is.
