I just made a pond that i'm going to use to duck hunt out of and i live in eastern Washington. I don't know what to plant in and around the pond to provide the best attractant for the ducks. Would like to hear from anyone who has done this before.

Japanese millet will work if you if you have 60-90 days before the first frost. It can be broadcast on mudflats. Jap Millet should not be completely submerged. It can be lightly flooded, but don't get above about half the plant or it may die. It's best to wait until it heads out before flooding if you can.

Dave, we have millet heading out in 45 days here...

what do you do for a living? where does all this knowledge of plants come from?? I just ask my father and he knows everything....
Ask your dad which type of millet it is. There are different varieties with different maturities. Seedland.com sells one that matures in 60-90 days. I did find cooperseeds.com that matures in 45-60 days. I've heard of a golden millet (a hybrid jap millet), but I'm not familiar with it yet, so I don't know the maturity rate.

I'm a homebuilder, but I have 430 acres that I mostly plant for deer/turkeys/doves. Most is wooded, with 6 1-2.5 acre plots for hunting. My knowledge has come from experience or asking others and retaining that information for future use.
