2006 Federal Duck Stamp winner announced

Sherrie Russell Meline of Mt. Shasta, California, is the second woman in the history of the Federal Duck Stamp Contest to win. Bruce Miller of Mound MN came in 2nd and Jim Caturia of Cottage Grove MN came in 3rd place in the federal duck stamp competition for next years stamp.

Build memories, take a kid out doors and teach them about nature by interacting with it, hunting and fishing.

very nice...but didn't we just have a Ross' on the federal stamp 2 years ago? IMHO they should consider that when picking new stamps in the future...

and another thing...why don't people paint coots? :eek: :toofunny:

all of those are nicely done. personally, i like the coloring of the second place entry. i wouldn't mind hanging a print of any of them on my wall though.

I didn't realize there were three prints on the DU site until I read shrpshtr's post that all were nicely done. I think the second painting looks better as well. Looks more like a photo than a painting! I say that the Drake Shoveler is definately one of the prettiest ducks. Probably a good thing they don't taste as good as a Mallard, otherwise they would be on everyone's "hit-list"!

They look good, but like swamp puppy said, they just had a snow/ross on the stamp a few years ago, and this years stamp looks very similar to the 1978 Merganser stamp. With all the entries, you think they could find something different.
