What to do to bring in the birds??

Postby So ILL Slayer » Wed Mar 18, 2009 10:31 am

I have a plot of land about 20 miles from the union county refuge. It has open fields and a 11.5 acre lake in the center of it. The lake is about 30 ft at its deepest point but has shallow areas that extend back into timber. Is this too far from major flight areas to even bother with bringing in birds or is there anything that I could do to develop this into a productive waterfowl spot? Crops, wood duck boxes, that sort of thing??

The birds will often explore beyond refuges to find secluded plots of land. I would concentrate on finding a food source that you can plant in the shallows or near shore. That should keep them coming regularly.

Milo winter wheat corn rice or a mixture of all spread out through the fields and banks of the lake should give them a lil to snack on
Nothing makes a day of hunting better then having a kid with you..
