I have seen a 24 pound and a 24.5 pound goose. This guy named Dewey who owned the restaurant next to Duck Creek conservation area killed a 24 pounder in 1994 and my dad killed one the same year that weighed 24.5 pounds. This is located in southeast Missouri near puxico.

Ever see a 30+ pound turkey like some of the ones you get from south-central MO? They are the size of a 55 gallon drum with feathers. A goose, which is built considerably LIGHTER than a turkey in order to enable LONG migration flights would look about 1/3 larger than that to weigh even near as much. Oh and btw, a bird that's making a long migration south from it's breeding grounds is going to be LIGHTER when it gets to where it's going, not heavier. This bird (an old resident bird from a large group of other resident birds) was HUGE...easilly 1/3 larger in body size than any of the birds we took that morning. The kid that's holding him shot it (his first ever goose too btw). He is 5' 11" tall and weighs about 175 pounds so he isn't a little kid. Care to guess how much that goose weighed???

How much did it weigh?

Just a shade over 13 pounds.

I know a guy, that knows a guy, that heard from his grandpappy that his momma once shot a 47 pound goose. Sorry, no pics though...it happened in 1995 and cameras hadn't been invented yet...

I have family in Puxico, there ain't no 24 lb geese down there. You'd be hard pressed to shoot one over 15 in MO

No, not anymore as this was in 1994. Till those were shot the biggest we had killed were 19 pounds. We had the field across from the Kinder store. 500 plus bigfoot/G&H super mag shell spread. We gave that lease up about ten years ago since the Canadas do not migrate there anymore. We used to kill over 100 birds a year out of that field. You all can believe or not thats your perogative.

Merry Xmas

Guy that lives down the road from has about 50 pet canada geese. The ones he's got over 20lbs are no longer capable of flight. The ones samller have no problems. He has 2 ponds on his property and they fly to the ponds, the big ones waddle to the ponds.

I killed a 12 pound goose yesterday (x-Mas morning). It looked like a friggin Hang Glider. 24 lb geese DO NOT EXIST except in the night sweat ridden dreams of my lab.

That phot is awesome. Put a bigger bird in front of a smaller bid and enlarge it just a touch and you still get a 13 pound honker.

Keep dreaming. We have killed big ass geese and thirteen is pretty generally accepted as the max. Fourteens occasionaly happen, but that is stretching it.

Going to wave the BS flag high and mighty. First goose I ever shot was 12lbs and yestarday shot one that was 13.8 and was one of the smallest birds in the flock. Not trying to start something and maybe we are shooting different types of geese, but 13 is definatley not the Max. I'd say 14-15.
