. The Giant Canada goose is the largest goose in the world, with some individuals weighing more than 20 pounds. They can also be long-lived, with a banded Giant Canada goose at 30 years and 4 months currently holding the longevity record for waterfowl.

NC has some giant Resident geese in the early season. It's not rare to kill 13-16 pound geese.

I hunted on the Eastern Shore of Maryland this year and on the second morning we shot some big geese for late January. Most of the birds aren't huge with them being migrators.

Seems common for 12 to 13 pound honker. After 3 years of looking nobody could produces a goose bigger then 13.

DOES NO ONE EVER LISTEN?!?!?!?!?!?! I have no idea why this crap infuriates me, maybe because I started hunting in the "land of the giants" or because I moved to Missouri and shoot park slobs that have been eating bread, Cheetos and grass for 6 years. I have shot a crap ton of geese, some that I have thought this one is going to tip the scales...and the biggest one has been all of 13 lbs!!!!!! When you hold a big bird, yes it feels heavy, but I can hold a bucket full of dog crap and tell you it weighs 150lbs, and unless I put it on a scale it means nothing, because no human being can tell you exactly how much an object weighs by just picking it up. No one on this board has ever shot a 20lbs goose, or a 18 lbs goose, or a 16 lbs goose for that matter, because if you had you would have pictures of that fat s.o.b on a scale showing exactly how much it weighed. Hallelujah! Holy $hit! Where's the tylenol?

I did put it on a scale. Just wanted to see what the guesses were.

Anyone who guesses the weight thinks they know more about geese than they really do. The point is, you can't tell weight from a picture...

That goose weighed a shade under 13 pounds. No I didn't take a picture of the scale with the goose on it, but that's what it weighed. It's the biggest goose I've ever shot and the biggest my hunting partner has ever seen as well. And no we aren't newbies either.

 that's really what it weighed, but no one would believe it so I deducted a few pounds.

I believe it. (the 13 lb comment)

I shot five Basin's one day about 15 years ago...they were all huge. One of them looked waaaaay bigger than the other 4. I was pretty amazed at how large it was compared to all the others. I drove 15 minutes into town and had it weighed on a certified scale... 13.7 lbs. (I don't have pics either) I weighed the other 4 and none of them made it over 11.5. There are big geese out there for sure, but there are a lot of folks who exaggerate size as well.
