goodkarma were you deer hunting in the woods when you shot that? :grooving: In southern illinois we shoot some decent size geese, but when I go up around Dekalb . . .they are usually always small. I've only weighed a couple, maybe I should start doing that huh.

this would be very surprising... you should try weighing them, and would cut that weight in half easily. Lots of people have claimed these big geese, but can't back it up, biggest I've heard/ seen was 14 lbs or so... trust me, it would be VERY hard work to get one or two of them!

I wish I knew where to shoot huge geese my biggest is not even close. On a good scale. I am positive that a 24 pounder is a pipe dream, any one who claims to have shoot one over 16 is dreaming.

Maybe i'm living the dream then. In the last two years i've only killed one goose under 10 pounds. I've killed a 9, a couple 15's, a 17 and one that was over 20 pounds. They are called Giant Canadian Geese. It's a subspecies of canadians. They are non migratory and will sometimes exceed 20 pounds and can have a wingspan of up to 6 feet. Look it up

Keep dreaming. We have killed big ass geese and thirteen is pretty generally accepted as the max. Fourteens occasionaly happen, but that is stretching it.

And these are the giant CANADA geese. What you are talking about is whats known as the maxima or maximus (something along those lines.) And they have been extinct for some time.

SO because you havent killed one means I haven't?

Depending on who you talk to, there are up to eleven subspecies of Canada Goose. The largest is the giant, with a wingspan of 6 feet and weighing up to 20 pounds. Among North American waterfowl, only the swans are larger. The smallest version is the so-called "cackling" goose, which weighs only 2-4 pounds. (This is now considered a separate species.) The giant Canada Goose is native to the Great Plains. It is unique in being non-migratory, at least in comparison to the other subspecies. The other subspecies nest from southern Canada up to the high Arctic tundra, and travel long distances in their annual migration. If the winter is mild, the giant may not leave its nesting area at all.

OK, like every other claimer in this thread, where are your pics and proof of its weight.

I have killed a goose with very close to a six foot wingspan, they do not weigh twenty or more pounds.
