Scouting is one of the top things any successful waterfowler needs to do in order to be successful on a CONSISTENT basis. And that may mean driving more than an hour from your residence to get in an area holding birds. Four seasons and not firing the gun is simply unacceptable. You are either not hunting very much or putting forth little effort it would seem. I dont mean to put you down, so dont take it that way, im just being very realistic about your situation.
Sounds to me like you have a severe lack of water wherever your hunting. Waterfowl need water. Id start by finding a major water source in your area and start your scouting efforts there. Doesnt matter ducks or geese, find out where theyre roosting/loafing at and where theyre going to feed at. Hunt where they wanna feed at, not where they roost. Small Lakes, Pasture Ponds, the right river situation can all hold roosting/loafing waterfowl. Any refuges in the area, another great place to look around. Get out scout these areas, and if they arent holding birds, move on until you find them. Otherwise your gonna be sitting at the same muck hole or field staring at an empty sky. Good luck to you, i know this may sound a little harsh, but it is what it is. If you wanna be successful you gotta go out and make it happen.
