Mixing in snows

Is it a good or bad idea to mix in some snow decoys with the canadas for color and volume?

Not if you want to shoot Canadas it isn't. If you also have some snows hitting your fields, the snow goose guys will likely tell you to place any snow deeks upwind of any Cancada decoys as snow are so much more aggressive feeders. As far as for hunting just Canadas?...leave the snow deeks out of the spread.
